QUOTES

Driver Jeff Purvis on Pikes Peak…

"Pikes Peak is not like your normal, follow the leader racetrack. It's a big track with a lot of room and if you're fast, you can get up to the front quickly. I grabbed the pole there last year and that should help me going into the weekend. We ran great in happy hour, but the track changed on race day and the adjustments we made got the car tight pretty much ending our day.

"I'm excited about getting back in the Rockwell Automation Chevy this weekend. This car and team have so much potential. Even though the car is different from what I've driven in the past (Pontiac), I've just got to regain my focus and get back in it. I talked to Gil earlier this week and we went over some of those things to try and help us this weekend. There will definitely be a little bit of a learning curve, but if I can get acclimated we could be really good."

Crew chief Gil Martin on Pikes Peak…

"This will only be my second visit to Pikes Peak, but I love the facility and racetrack. It will be interesting to see how the race weekend unfolds. I think the new tire will create a lot of havoc and make things very frustrating. We pretty much have to throw all of our old information out the window and just go in there and see what happens. It's nice to know that Purvis got the pole here last year. I think that will give him some confidence going into the weekend. We just have to wait and see."

NOTES

Purvis and the 21… Purvis fought a tight car in his debut as the driver of the No. 21 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet at Gateway International Raceway last Saturday night. Starting from the 20th position, he still was able to climb five positions throughout the race in route to a 15th place finish.

Pole Sitter…Not only did Purvis grab the pole position for last year's NAPA AutoCare 250 in Fountain, CO, he shattered the qualifying record by three-tenths on his way. Running in the No. 4 Porter Cable Pontiac, Purvis ran a lap of 35.629 seconds with a speed of 135.629 mph and grabbed his sixth pole in 138 starts.

Martin's Pole…Ironically enough, crew chief Gil Martin also has a piece of a pole at Pikes Peak International Raceway. He helped Winston Cup regular Dave Blaney nab the pole position in 1999, then watched all their efforts slip away when Blaney was caught up in an accident and wound up 24th.

Colorado Stats…In three visits to the relatively flat 1-mile oval, Purvis has some nice numbers. He has one pole and two top-11 starts to go along with his two top-5 finishes and one top-15 finish.

Chassis No. 001…Team Rock will take chassis No. 001 to Fountain, CO this weekend, the same one they raced at Las Vegas, Darlington, Nashville, Richmond, New Hampshire and Milwaukee earlier this season. The team posted two top-5 and three top-10 finishes in these six races.
