NAPA Auto Care 250 - Jimmie Johnson Notes Johnson and Excedrin Racing Head to the Mountains CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 24, 2001) – Jimmie Johnson and the Excedrin Racing team are heading to the mountains this weekend for the NASCAR Busch Series' NAPA Autocare 250. With past experience at the one-mile, D-shaped Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., Johnson feels that the No. 92 Excedrin Racing team is sure to bring home a top-five finish and advance in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings. "We are only 73 points out of fifth place in the driver's points," said Johnson. "The Excedrin Racing team's goal is to end the season in the top-five in driver's points, and it is very possible for us to achieve that goal. In fact, we could close the gap this weekend. I ran really well at Pikes Peak in my ASA (American Speed Association) car in 1998 and I really like the track. I'm looking forward to returning to the mountains of Colorado and bringing home a good finish for Herzog Motorsports." Johnson, who is currently eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series driver's points standings, hopes what he learned in March at Texas Motor Speedway will carry over to this weekend's race at Pikes Peak International Raceway. "Pikes Peak is very similar to Texas Motor Speedway," stated Johnson. "Todd Bodine spent some time with us earlier in the season, and he helped the Excedrin Racing team with setups for the Texas race. The help paid off because we ended up leading the race. I think that some of those things that we learned in Texas will help the Excedrin Racing team have a top-five run this weekend." In preparation for the NAPA Autocare 250, Johnson will be attending a media tour for Pikes Peak International Raceway. Johnson will be available for interviews in Denver on Wednesday, July 25 and in Colorado Springs on Thursday, July 26. Johnson will also participate in an autograph session at Fort Carson from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Local race fans will also catch a glimpse of Johnson as he reports the weather for KRDO, Colorado Springs' ABC affiliate, at 5:30 p.m. on channel 13. "I think it will be exciting to report the weather," said Johnson. "That's something I've never done before. I am looking forward to helping promote Saturday's race at Pikes Peak International Raceway. I think we will be able to get a lot of coverage in the next couple of days, and hopefully that will boost the support of our fans." Racing action at the one-mile facility will take place on Saturday afternoon, July 28, live on the NBC Television Network and MRN Radio Network starting at 3:30 p.m. EST.
