NAPA Auto Care 250 - Clay Rogers Notes

Clay Rogers / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes
Pikes Peak International Raceway

ROGERS' SEAT TIME: The NAPA AutoCare 250 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado will be the second of three races in a row for Clay Rogers. This will be the only time during the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season that Rogers will compete in three races in a row. Following Pikes Peak, he is scheduled to pilot the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Indiana for the Kroger 200 on Aug. 4. Rogers plans on driving a total of 12 Busch Series races in the Visine car in 2001.

KENSETH WON INAUGURAL PPIR EVENT: Rogers' teammate, Matt Kenseth, started from the pole position and took the checkered flag for Reiser Enterprises at the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race at PPIR in 1998. Kenseth led a total of 104 laps during that race.

KENSETH IN MICHIGAN: Matt Kenseth will return to the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway for the NAPAonline.com 250 on Aug. 18.

OWNERS' POINTS BATTLE: Reiser Enterprises holds the ninth spot in the owners' points standings with 2,359 points through 20 NASCAR Busch Series events. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has earned eight top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 1,785 points in 13 races. In six races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 414 points for the Visine Racing team. With road-course specialist Boris Said finishing fourth in the Visine Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points.

TESTING NEWS: The Visine Racing team plans on having a test session in the near future with Clay Rogers at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Rogers is scheduled to compete in the Busch Series event at Bristol on Aug. 24.

Clay Rogers' Comments on pikes peak: "I'm really looking forward to going to Pikes Peak with the same car we had at Kentucky. I really like that car. There's a lot of room to race there, so it should be fun. Several drivers say it's a great place to race. I can't wait to find out for myself what it's like out there. This team has won there before, so that should work to our advantage when we take a look at our notes. After Gateway, I'm looking to find some good luck in Colorado. Things have to balance out eventually. Maybe this week will be our first top-10 finish. Our qualifying efforts keep improving. We need to focus on staying out of trouble."

CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON PIKES PEAK: "Clay has shown a lot of improvement with qualifying our car. Starting eighth last week was a boost of confidence for him. It's unfortunate we couldn't come home with a top-10 finish to build some momentum. I know he can't wait to get back in the car though and make a run at a top-10 at Pikes Peak. He can do it."

Last Race (July 21, CarQuest Auto Parts 250, Gateway): An early accident in turn two prematurely ended Clay Rogers' race Saturday night at Gateway International Raceway in Illinois. On lap 44, Kelly Denton made contact with the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet, running 16th at the time, causing Rogers to spin into the outside retaining wall. The rear-end damage to the Visine car forced Rogers to settle for a 34th-place finish after starting the CarQuest Auto Parts 250 from a career-best eighth position. (more)

LAST YEAR'S NAPA AUTOCARE 250 (July 22, 2000): Former Reiser Enterprises driver Jason Schuler qualified 13th for the NAPA AutoCare 250 after two rain delays during time trials. Schuler quickly maneuvered the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet to the ninth position. With the first caution flag of the race not waving until lap 200, he made two green-flag pit stops on laps 91 and 181. Schuler returned to the track in 33rd place after pitting on lap 181. He finished the race in the 30th position, completing 247 of 250 laps.

Sponsor Notes: Partners on the Visine Chevrolet for the NAPA AutoCare 250 are BenGay and Cortizone, products produced by Pfizer Consumer Health Care.
