Outback Steakhouse 200 - Raybestos Rookie Notes

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES

· Raybestos Rookie Contender Scott Wimmer was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Wimmer finished eighth, his sixth top-10 of 2001 and took home highest finishing rookie honors for the sixth time this season.

· Jamie McMurray had one of his better runs of the season at Memphis, collecting an 11th place finish, his best effort since he finished sixth at the Live Well 200 at Milwaukee in July.

· All four Raybestos Rookie Contenders entered at Memphis finished on the lead lap. In addition to Wimmer and McMurray, Larry Foyt (17th) and Greg Biffle (20th) completed all 250 laps. The Memphis event marked the third time this season four Raybestos Rookie Contenders have finished on the lead lap. The most rookies to complete the entire distance in a race was five in the NAPA 300 at Daytona in February.

· Greg Biffle continues to hold a commanding lead in the Raybestos Rookie Contender standings. He leads by 118 (350-232) entering Saturday's Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phonenix International Raceway. Biffle was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Memphis, taking the fourth position in time trials.

· Biffle has rewritten the record book for a Busch Series Raybestos Rookie Contender. Entering Saturday's race at Phoenix, Biffle has set records this season for most wins (four), most top fives (14), earnings ($1,090,165), most laps led (836), and most races led (18).

· Biffle has been the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in 20 events this season, and has been the highest qualifying rookie in 19 races.

· Biffle has led 1,088.80 miles (836 laps) in 18 races this season. He has led a total of 40 times entering Saturday's race at Phoenix. Biffle ranks second on the miles leaders chart behind Kevin Harvick, who has led 1,225.69 miles. The Little Trees 300 at Charlotte was the first race Biffle has led since the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (78.92 miles), Foyt (4.50 miles), Donohue (2.45), and McMurray (1.50 miles).

· Raybestos Rookie Contenders Biffle, Wimmer, and McMurray have started all 30 Busch Series races entering the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix.

· Biffle won the pole for the CarQuest 250 at Gateway International Raceway, his second Bud Pole of the season. His lap of record was 33.999 seconds, 132.357 mph and remains the only Raybestos Rookie to win at least one pole position this season. He also nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February.

· Biffle led the most laps in the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, the fourth time this season he has accomplished the feat. He led the race once for 107 laps. Biffle also led the most laps in Busch Series races at California, Nashville, and Charlotte.

· McMurray qualified sixth at Milwaukee, his best qualifying effort of the season. Prior to his run at Milwaukee, McMurray's best run in time trials was ninth at both Darlington and Nazareth.

· Wimmer's best finish this season is a third place effort at Nashville. He and Biffle are the only Raybestos Rookie Contenders to score top-five finishes in the Busch Series this season. Wimmer also led once for two laps at Nashville, the first time he had led a Busch Series race since the season opening event at Daytona in February.

· McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001.

· Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta. He started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle, who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. Wimmer was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona.

· Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap.
