Outback Steakhouse 200 - Jimmie Johnson Notes

Johnson Starts Countdown to Season Finale

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 24, 2001) - Jimmie Johnson and Herzog Motorsports are starting their countdown to the NASCAR Busch Series season finale. With just three races remaining in the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series schedule, Johnson currently rides in the eighth position in the driver points standings and Herzog Motorsports holds on to ninth place in the owner points standings.

Johnson and his Herzog Motorsports team will make their third trip to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend for the 31st race on the Busch Series schedule. The team will also be making their second appearance in the No. 92 beaggressivenow.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Teaming up with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson and Herzog Motorsports are helping promote diabetes education and screening to race fans.

As a special addition to the Be Aggressive! Control Type 2 Diabetes national campaign, the Glucovan, a medical office on wheels, will be traveling to Phoenix with Johnson and his Herzog Motorsports race team. The Glucovan will be open on the midway Friday through Sunday for race fans to be screened for type 2 diabetes and to learn more about managing and treating this disease.

Johnson and the Herzog Motorsports race team are looking forward to their chance of bringing home a top-five finish in the No. 92 beaggressivenow.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo. “Last year at Phoenix, the Herzog Motorsports team had a great run going,” said Johnson. “We were running in the top-10 until the motor blew. Since we are running the beaggressivenow.com paint scheme again this weekend, and we have the Glucovan here to screen race fans for type 2 diabetes, we are hoping to put on a great show for the fans and tie that in with helping people understand more about type 2 diabetes.”

In 2000, Johnson clocked his best qualifying effort of the season at Phoenix International Raceway, starting the race in the fifth position. Running in the top-10 for the first 60 laps, Johnson fell to the 11th position before blowing an engine on lap 62 of the 200-lap event.

“I like racing at Phoenix,” stated Johnson. “It is a very unique track. Phoenix has its own shape, and is not like any other track in which the NASCAR Busch Series runs. I had my best qualifying run at Phoenix last year and hope to repeat with a top-five start this year. Hopefully, we will not have the same bad luck as last year and be able to bring home a top-five finish for Herzog Motorsports and beaggressivenow.com.”

The No. 92 beaggressivenow.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo is scheduled to make its second appearance this Saturday, October 27, in the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. The race will broadcast live on the TNT Television Network and the MRN Radio Network at 3:00 p.m. EST.
