Outback Steakhouse 200 - Phoenix International Raceway
Biffle Wins at Phoenix
Greg Biffle overcame a cut right-front tire on lap 69, as the unscheduled pit stop put the number 60 Ford off sequence and a lap down, to win the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Biffle followed up his win last night in the Craftsman Truck Series race with his fifth Busch Series win of the 2001 season, rewriting the record book for wins by a rookie. Biffle also won Ford's 12th BGN race of the season, equaling the manufacturer's best single-season win total. Biffle led 112 laps on the day and beat Jeff Green to the yellow flag to win the race under caution after a late-race accident. Series point leader Kevin Harvick crossed the stripe in third, giving him a 193-point cushion over Green with two races to go. Winston Cup regulars Ron Hornaday and Todd Bodine rounded out the top-five finishers.
Spencer Grabs Busch Pole at Phoenix
Jimmy Spencer will start from the top spot in the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Spencer qualified at an average speed of 131.339, a lap time of 27.410 seconds, to set a new Phoenix track record. The pole position is the second of the season for Spencer, who has also collected two wins this season. Point-leader Kevin Harvick will join Spencer on the front row, starting from the outside pole.
