Pepsi 300 - Raybestos Rookie Notes

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES

· Greg Biffle was the highest finishing Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Jani-King 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Biffle finished seventh and collected Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the fifth time this season, most of all rookie contenders. He stretched his lead in Raybestos Rookie Contender points to 35 (98-63) over Tim Sauter and Scott Wimmer who are tied for second place.

· Biffle has more top-five finishes (three) and top-10s (four) than any other Raybestos Rookie Contender. He is the only Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Busch Series to score a top-five finish this season. He has three top-fives entering this weekend's Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Sauter has two top-10 finishes this season and is the only other rookie to score a top-10 finish.

· Biffle and Sauter are also the only rookies to capture Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 2001.

· Kevin Harvick, Raybestos Rookie point leader in the Winston Cup Series, leads the Busch Series points by 115 over second place Jason Keller. Harvick scored his first Busch Series win of the 2001 season in the Jani-King 300 at Texas.

· Biffle is third in Busch Series points entering Saturday's Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. He trails point leader Harvick by 126 and is 11 points behind second place Jason Keller.

· Biffle remains the only Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Busch Series to win a pole position in 2001. He nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February. Biffle is one of only four drivers to win a pole this season in the Busch Series: Ryan Newman (2), Matt Kenseth (2), and Kevin Harvick (1) are the others.

· Biffle is tied for leading the most races in 2001 with Todd Bodine and Matt Kenseth. Each driver has led laps in four races entering the Nashville 300.

· Jamie McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001. McMurray is the fourth Raybestos Rookie Contender to lead at least one lap this season.

· Biffle has led at least one lap in three of the first six races of the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season. Entering Saturday's race at Nashville, Biffle has led seven times in four races for a total of 123.04 miles (80 laps), most of any Raybestos Rookie Contender. He ranks sixth overall in miles led in the Busch Series. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (60.00 miles), Foyt (2.50 miles), and McMurray (1.50 miles).

· Biffle is the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to be running at the finish in all seven Busch Series races this season.

· McMurray was the highest qualifying rookie at Darlington, the first time this season he has taken home the honors. He nailed down the ninth starting position during time trials and was the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to qualify in the top-10.

· Marty Houston was the highest qualifying rookie at Texas. He nabbed the 12th starting position in time trials and backed up his run with a respectable performance in the race. Houston was credited with 25th in the final finishing order.

· Houston scored his best finish of the season in the Cheez-It 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He stayed out of trouble and finished 14th at the checkered flag. Even more impressive was the fact Houston started 39th in the race.

· Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta, the second time this season he has nabbed the honor. Wimmer started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. He was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona.

· Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap. Wimmer was also the highest qualifying rookie at Daytona, earning the fifth position during time trials.
