After experiencing handling problems early in the race, Grubb and the Timber Wolf Racing Team battled back to run as high as fifth-place during green flag pit stops. A late-race caution negated a possible top five finish based on fuel mileage. Grubb stands 24th in Busch Series points after seven races in 2001. "Pancake" to the rescue … Grubb will drive the car nicknamed "Pancake" in the Pepsi 300 at the new Nashville Superspeedway this Saturday. "Pancake" was the most used car in the Timber Wolf stable last season with seven races. Grubb piloted "Pancake" to two top ten finishes (8th at Myrtle Beach, 9th at Nazareth) and posted three additional top fifteen runs as well (12th at Milwaukee, 13th at Memphis, 14th at Nashville). This car also qualified in the top fifteen five times last season with fifth at Milwaukee the best. The Pepsi 300 will be the first race for "Pancake" this season. "Pancake" got its name during the ’99 season when it returned to the shop wrecked and flat as a "pancake" on several occasions. Kevin Grubb on the Pepsi 300 and the new Nashville Superspeedway… "This weekend should really be a unique experience at a new track without any testing for the first time. I’ve had some of my best success on the "concrete" tracks at Bristol and Dover, so I’m hoping for the same type run at Nashville. I guess only Harvick has run here since he did the tire test. I’ve heard the Nashville track is similar to ‘Vegas and Gateway, but until I get some practice laps in Thursday nobody really knows. I’m looking for my old friend "Pancake" to bring this Timber Wolf team our first top ten of the season this weekend."
