Sam's Club 200 - Raybestos Rookie Notes NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES · Raybestos Rookie Contender Greg Biffle won the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Biffle scored his fifth Busch Series win this season, a record for a rookie in the Busch Series. Biffle's win ties him with Kevin Harvick for most wins in the series this season entering Saturday's Sam's Club 200 at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham. · Biffle led the most laps at Phoenix, the fifth time this season he has accomplished the feat. He led the race twice for 112 laps and was the only rookie to lead at least one lap at Phoenix. Biffle also led the most laps at California, Nashville, Indianapolis, and Charlotte. · Scott Wimmer had a good day at Phoenix. The Raybestos Rookie Contender worked his way through the field from his 36th starting position to finish seventh, his seventh top-10 finish of the season. · Entering Saturday's race at Rockingham, Biffle has 15 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes and has been Raybestos Rookie of the Race in 21 events this season. He enjoys a 118-point lead (346-228) over Scott Wimmer in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings. He was highest qualifying rookie at Phoenix, taking the fourth starting position and top qualifying rookie honors for the 19th time in 2001. · Biffle has rewritten the record book for a Busch Series Raybestos Rookie Contender. Entering Saturday's race at Phoenix, Biffle has set records this season for most wins (five), most top fives (15), earnings ($1,161,810), most laps led (948), most races led (19), most races started (32), and most points overall (4,217). · Biffle has led 1,2000.80 miles in 19 races this season. He has led a total of 42 times entering Saturday's race at Rockingham. Biffle ranks second on the miles leaders chart behind Kevin Harvick, who has led 1,225.69 miles. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (78.92 miles), Foyt (4.50 miles), and McMurray (1.50 miles). · Raybestos Rookie Contenders Biffle, Wimmer, and McMurray have started all 31 Busch Series races entering the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix. · 2000 Raybestos Rookie Champion Kevin Harvick was the highest finishing rookie in last year's Sam's Club 200. Harvick finished 10th on the same lap as race winner Jeff Green. Jay Sauter was the highest qualifying rookie last year at Rockingham, taking the ninth starting position. Sauter finished 20th, one lap down. All six Raybestos Rookies that qualified for the race were running at the finish of the event. The rest of the class: Ron Hornaday (11th), Jimmie Johnson (13th), Michael Ritch (21st), and Jason Leffler (30th). · Biffle won the pole for the CarQuest 250 at Gateway International Raceway, his second Bud Pole of the season. His lap of record was 33.999 seconds, 132.357 mph and remains the only Raybestos Rookie to win at least one pole position this season. He also nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February. · Biffle led the most laps in the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, the fourth time this season he has accomplished the feat. He led the race once for 107 laps. Biffle also led the most laps in Busch Series races at California, Nashville, and Charlotte. · McMurray qualified sixth at Milwaukee, his best qualifying effort of the season. Prior to his run at Milwaukee, McMurray's best run in time trials was ninth at both Darlington and Nazareth. · Wimmer's best finish this season is a third place effort at Nashville. He and Biffle are the only Raybestos Rookie Contenders to score top-five finishes in the Busch Series this season. Wimmer also led once for two laps at Nashville, the first time he had led a Busch Series race since the season opening event at Daytona in February. · McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001. · Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta. He started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle, who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. Wimmer was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona. · Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap.
