GNC Live Well 250 - Joe Gibbs Racing Notes GIBBS BUSCH SERIES TEAMS LOOK FOR A WIN IN GNC LIVE WELL 250 MILWAUKEE, WI --- Both of the Joe Gibbs NASCAR Busch Series drivers have recorded runner-up finishes in their Milwaukee Mile racing careers. Just last season, MBNA sponsored driver Jeff Purvis qualified and finished 2nd to 2000 Busch Series Champion Jeff Green. Purvis led the 250 lap race as late as lap 221 before Green slid by for the win. Mike McLaughlin came within a few feet of passing Buckshot Jones for the win on the last lap of the 1996 race. Both drivers will be among the favorites to capture the checkered flag on Sunday. McLaughlin, a winner earlier this year in Talladega, stands in the fifth position in the Busch Series Point Standings. Purvis currently stands in the 7th position after transmission problems erased a probable first or second place finish two weeks ago at The Kentucky Speedway. In order to capture the win, Mike McLaughlin believes its going to be important to adapt quickly to the Goodyear tires. "We have struggled all year with this particular tire, but this week we are going to try a completely different approach to the tire and see where we end up," McLaughlin said. "I know Tim Shutt (crew chief) and the guys will give me a great car, hopefully I can rely on my past experiences in Milwaukee and stay up front. We need to get back on track this weekend with a strong finish." The GNC Live Well 250 takes the green flag Sunday at 2:00pm EDT. PIT NOTES In seven career starts on The Milwaukee Mile, Mike McLaughlin has recorded six finishes of 13th place or better. In his first five visits, he recorded four finishes of sixth or better. McLaughlin has also completed 1747 of a possible 1750 laps at The Milwaukee Mile. Jeff Purvis captured the pole position for the 1998 Busch Series race in Milwaukee. The Kentucky Speedway race was a costly one for Joe Gibbs Racing. Both drivers were running inside the top-ten when mechanical troubles hit both drivers. Purvis had run as high as second and McLaughlin as high as third in the middle stages of the 300 mile race.
