Mr. Goodcents 300 - Matt Kenseth Notes
Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes SEEING GREEN FOR THE NEXT TWO RACES: The Visine Chevrolet will take on a different look at Kansas Speedway. Featured earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., the Visine-A brand's green paint scheme will once again cover the No. 17 car for two more races in 2001. The Visine-A paint scheme, based on the packaging from the Visine-A eye drops, will appear on the Reiser Enterprises-owned machine for back-to-back Busch Series races at Kansas and Lowe's Motor Speedway. Visine-A is an antihistamine/redness reliever eye drop that temporarily relieves itching and redness of the eye due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair and dander. GREEN IS NOT BAD LUCK FOR KENSETH: Matt Kenseth's two events in the Visine-A car so far in 2001 have been quite successful. In fact, Kenseth grabbed the pole at Texas and finished fifth with the "green machine." He also claimed second-place honors with the special paint scheme on board at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the May Busch Series race. Kenseth battled Jeff Green in a last-lap duel during that race. ANOTHER NEW TRACK: In Kenseth's only other Busch Series event at a new track - Chicagoland Speedway - this season, he started third, but finished 30th. On the third lap of the race, Kenseth drove the Visine Chevrolet into the outside retaining wall in turn four of the 1.5-mile track. After pitting several times to repair right-side and rear-end damage, he spun on lap 118 and scraped the wall again. Motor trouble on lap 152 forced the Visine Racing team into an early exit from the race. HOWEVER, DID YOU KNOW?: Kenseth has been victorious at a new track before. He won the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race from the pole at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado in 1998. REMAINING RACES: With just six races left on the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series schedule, Matt Kenseth is slated to drive the Visine Chevrolet at Kansas, Charlotte, Phoenix and Rockingham. His teammate, Clay Rogers, will compete in the other two races at Memphis and Miami. IN THE STANDINGS: Reiser Enterprises holds the 11th spot in the owners' points standings with 3,150 points through 27 NASCAR Busch Series events, just 47 points short of the top 10. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has earned nine top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 2,445 points in 18 races. In eight races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 545 points for the Visine Racing team. Because road-course specialist Boris Said finished fourth in the Visine Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points. Matt Kenseth's Comments on KANSAS: "I've never been there, so I don't know too much about the place yet. We know it has similarities to Chicago and Vegas. I'm sure it will be a fast track and that's always a lot of fun for me. We're bringing a fast car. Hopefully, we'll be able to start up front and stay there." CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON KANSAS: "We're taking 'Chassis No. 3' to Kansas this weekend. It sat on the pole at Texas and practically won the race at Charlotte on the last lap. Kansas will be a fast, challenging track. It's Matt's kind of track. We should be a contender if everything works out for us. Kansas is a replica of Chicago and we qualified well there. We should be able to repeat another good qualifying effort. Last Race: Matt Kenseth's bid for another win at Dover last week was haulted by a late-race accident involving Ryan Newman and Mike McLaughlin. Kenseth started 20th and quickly maneuvered to the front of the field. He was battling for the third position with just 15 laps to go when Newman made contact with the Visine Chevrolet and sent Kenseth into a spin. The two-time winner at Dover salvaged a 10th-place finish even after hitting the wall in the accident.
