Mr. Goodcents 300 - Jay Sauter Notes Jay Sauter #43 Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Chevrolet Monte Carlo Mr. GOODCENTS 300 / September 29, 2001 Kansas Speedway
The Mr. GOODCENTS 300 will be the inaugural Busch Series race at Kansas Speedway Last Race – Dover … Jay Sauter qualified 25th and finished 18th in the MBNA.com 200 at Dover Downs on Saturday, September 22nd. Sauter was headed toward a possible top ten finish when his engine dropped a cylinder with nine laps remaining. The result was an 18th-place finish. However, Sauter maintained his 17th position in the overall Busch Series point standings, 99 behind Bobby Hamilton Jr. in 16th. Bring on Kansas! … The Mr. GOODCENTS 300 at Kansas Speedway will be the fourth new track that the NASCAR Busch Series has competed on this season. Let’s examine Sauter’s record at the other three "new tracks" in 2001: Sauter on his "new spotter" … "At Dover, Gene (Crew Chief Nead) spotted for me. Being able to see the entire track really gave Gene a good perspective on how to help me around the track. I knew early that this wasn’t the first time he had spotted. He really did a good job." Sauter on the Mr. Goodcents 300 and the Kansas Speedway … "I’m really looking forward to this weekend and another new track – Kansas Speedway. The Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt team didn’t test Kansas, but we’ve heard from others that it’s very similar to Kentucky and Chicagoland. That was ‘sweet music to my ears’ when I heard that. Our team has run really good at the other new tracks this season even though the records don’t show it. At Nashville, I led a lap and had a solid top five car until engine problems sidelined us. At Kentucky, I got my first career Bud Pole in the Busch Series and had a strong car all night and finished ninth. At Chicagoland, I was running in the top ten when engine problems put us out there, too. So, I’m looking for another strong run this weekend. We’ve just got to finish what we start and we’ll have a good afternoon. Everybody wants to win the first ever race at any track. The Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt team is no different, except that any win would be a big win for us. And, with the strong runs that we’ve had at similar tracks to Kansas, we’ve heading there with high hopes!"
