Kroger 200 - Clay Rogers Notes
Clay Rogers / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes ROGERS' SEAT TIME: After piloting the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet in the last two NASCAR Busch Series events, Clay Rogers will compete in his third straight race by driving at Indianapolis Raceway Park in the Kroger 200 on Aug. 4. Rogers plans on racing in a total of 12 Busch Series events behind the wheel of the No. 17 car in 2001. Including Saturday night's race, Rogers has five events left this season. SUCCESS AT IRP: Rogers' teammate, Matt Kenseth, posted two sixth-place finishes and one fourth-place finish in three appearances at IRP. Kenseth led 38 laps in the IRP race in 1999. KENSETH IN MICHIGAN: Matt Kenseth will return to the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway for the NAPAonline.com 250 on Aug. 18. Clay Rogers is scheduled to be back in the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet the following week at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for the Food City 250 on Aug. 24. OWNERS' POINTS BATTLE: Reiser Enterprises holds the 10th spot in the owners' points standings with 2,417 points through 21 NASCAR Busch Series events. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has earned eight top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 1,785 points in 13 races. In seven races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 472 points for the Visine Racing team. With road-course specialist Boris Said finishing fourth in the Visine Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points. TESTING NEWS: Clay Rogers and the Visine Racing team completed a 14-hour test session at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee on Tuesday in preparation for the Food City 250 at Bristol on Aug. 24. Clay Rogers' Comments on IRP: "We'll just use the first two hours of practice to get used to the track. We'll probably do a couple qualifying runs towards the end of practice like we did at St. Louis and hopefully come out with a better result. I like the short tracks. I drove on race tracks that are a lot similar to IRP. I think we'll have a good car there. Plus, we'll be night racing. It kind of makes everything more consistent. You don't have to chase the track as much. It just seems like everything lights up brighter and the engines run better. It's a lot better racing." CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON IRP: "I'm hoping Clay can get a solid finish at IRP so we can put the last couple of weeks behind us. It's been tough for Clay to build up his confidence with what's happened recently. Getting involved in a wreck at St. Louis and having clutch problems at Pikes Peak has made it difficult for Clay to show his talent. He's a smart kid, and hopefully, he'll get a fair chance to run well and be competitive at IRP." Last Race (July 28, NAPA AutoCare 250, Pikes Peak): Clutch and motor problems gave Clay Rogers plenty of headaches during the NAPA AutoCare 250 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado. After starting 28th and making two trips to the garage during the race, the driver of the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet settled for a 35th-place finish by completing 114 of 250 laps. LAST YEAR'S KROGER 200 (August 4, 2000): Former Reiser Enterprises driver Jason Schuler started the Kroger 200 from the 32nd position. At the halfway point of the race, Schuler gained control of the 20th spot on lap 100. Making a move for the top 15, he was involved in an accident in turn two on lap 154. The damage to the car forced the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet out the race and Schuler recorded a 33rd-place finish. Sponsor Notes: Partners on the Visine Chevrolet for the Kroger 200 are BenGay and Cortizone, products produced by Pfizer Consumer Health Care.
