MBNA.com 200 - Qualifying Quotes

GREG BIFFLE, GRAINGER FORD. BIFFLE WAS THE HIGHEST QUALIFYING RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDER, TAKING THE EIGHTH STARTING POSITION WITH A LAP OF 23.633 SECONDS, 152.329 MPH. BIFFLE HAS NOW BEEN THE HIGHEST QUALIFYING ROOKIE IN 18 RACES THIS SEASON " It wasn't as good as we would have liked for it to be. I think it's fair, it's close to what we were running in practice. Some guys have run better and some guys have run worse than what they did in practice." WHAT'S THE HARD PART ABOUT GETTING IN A GOOD LAP AT DOVER? "It's concrete and the wheels chatter a little bit on the racetrack. It's technique. You've got to be right on your marks and hit it right on the money."

JAMIE MCMURRAY, WILLIAMS TRAVEL CENTERS CHEVROLET, WILL START 16TH AT DOVER. HE FINISHED 19TH IN THE MBNA PLATINUM 200 IN JUNE. "The track got real slick. It looked like everybody lost a bunch of time but we really didn't loose much. We thought we'd run a 23.50 which is about three tenths off where we're at. It seemed like everybody slowed down about that much. We're not all that disappointed. We came from a lot further back at Richmond in the last race. I think we'll have a really good car for the race, just stay out of trouble and we'll have a good day. " YOUR TEAM HAS BEEN MORE COMPETITIVE ON THE TRACK IN THE LAST FEW RACES. TALK ABOUT HOW THE TEAM HAS TURNED AROUND. "We're not really doing a lot of things differently. I'm working a lot closer with Kevin (Grubb, his teammate) and with the #37 team. We're a little bit different stuff but nothing major. Everybody goes though bad times and good times, I guess. We're hoping that we can run better that what we are right now. We had a really good car here in the spring and got tangled up early on but still didn't finish too bad even with the nose ripped off.

SCOTT WIMMER, JANI KING PONTIAC, WILL START 18TH. "We're still fighting the same thing that we were fighting in practice. We're just not getting off the corner good enough. That's where we losing all our speed. The car feels good entering the corner and through the middle. We were hoping for a little more. We ran a little bit faster than that in practice. I think we will be real good in race trim."

LARRY FOYT, HARRAH'S CHEVROLET. FOYT WILL START 23RD. "I felt real good after practice. I thought we were a lot better than the first time we came here. Unfortunately, we were real loose in qualifying so we didn't turn a good time. I know we've got a better car than that. We just screwed up qualifying. We should be OO in the race." FOYT WAS SIDELINED BY AN EARLY RACE ACCIDENT IN THE JUNE EVENT AT DOVER AND FINISHED 41ST, COMPLETING JUST 10 LAPS. HOW DO YOU AVOID AN EARLY RACE ACCIDENT AT DOVER? "You've got to be driving way in front of your car and also be a little lucky. That was a bad luck deal. It was pretty early in the race and we were pretty bunched up and some cars were wrecking in front of us. You get caught up in those things when you're running close together. With a little luck we won't have those deals."
