MBNA.com 200 - Matt Kenseth Notes

Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes

Dover Downs International Speedway / MBNA.COM 200

DOVER DOMINATOR: In nine career NASCAR Busch Series events at "The Monster Mile," Matt Kenseth has claimed two wins, one pole and five top-three finishes. Kenseth is the defending champion of the MBNA.COM 200. His success at the concrete oval also includes leading a total of 462 laps in those nine races. Earlier this season, Kenseth finished second in the MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway in Delaware.

DID YOU KNOW?: Matt Kenseth has led more laps (462) at Dover Downs International Speedway than any other track in his Busch Series career.

IN THE STANDINGS: Reiser Enterprises holds the 11th spot in the owners' points standings with 3,016 points through 26 NASCAR Busch Series events, just 65 points short of the top 10. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has earned nine top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 2,311 points in 17 races. In eight races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 545 points for the Visine Racing team. Because road-course specialist Boris Said finished fourth in the Visine Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points.

SEEING GREEN FOR THE NEXT TWO RACES: The Visine Chevrolet will take on a different look next weekend at Kansas Speedway. Featured earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., the Visine-A brand's green paint scheme will once again cover the No. 17 car for two more races in 2001. The Visine-A paint scheme, based on the packaging from the Visine-A eye drops, will appear on the Reiser Enterprises-owned machine for back-to-back Busch Series races at Kansas and Lowe's Motor Speedway. Visine-A is an antihistamine/redness reliever eye drop that temporarily relieves itching and redness of the eye due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair and dander.

Matt Kenseth's Comments on dover: "After finishing second at Dover earlier this year, it really makes you hungry to win this time around. We had the car working really well, but couldn't hold on to the lead. We want to win this weekend. It'd be nice to win another time there. Dover is definitely one I always have circled on my calendar that I look forward to. It's a pretty fast track with a lot of banking. It's pretty smooth compared to what it used to be. You kind of drive downhill into the corners and uphill out of the corners. You carry just a tremendous amount of speed up out of the corners and it kind of throws the car up by the wall. It's a pretty good rush. It's only a mile track, and you get around there in under 24 seconds, so that's pretty cool."

CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON DOVER: "We're taking 'Chassis No. 4' to Dover this weekend. We won back-to-back races at Dover and Charlotte with that car last fall. We're going up there very optimistic about getting the pole and hopefully winning. When we were at Dover in June, we had pit stop trouble and that messed up our chance to win. We're going to be strong going over the wall at Dover this time. Matt likes the fast, aggressive tracks like Dover. He's got to drive on the edge to win. A trip to victory lane this weekend would really boost team morale." (more)

Last year's mbna.COM 200 (Sept. 23, 2000): Matt Kenseth logged his third win of the 2000 season in the Visine Chevrolet in the MBNA.COM 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway. Kenseth sailed from his 14th-place starting position to lead 102 of 200 laps, marking his second career win at the one-mile oval and the 10th win of his NASCAR Busch Series career. While Kenseth dominated on the track, the Visine Racing team took control in the pits, knocking off two 17-second stops.

Last Race: Matt Kenseth came close to winning two weeks ago at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia, but he wound up finishing second to Jimmy Spencer, who seemed to have a stronger car. Kenseth cracked the top 10 on lap 24 after starting from the 16th position. He swiftly made his way up to fifth on lap 51. Kenseth took over second on lap 153 and moved to the lead on lap 186 after the Visine Racing team executed a lightning-quick pit stop. The Visine Chevrolet stayed out in front for 23 laps until Kenseth had handling trouble with the car on lap 208. Spencer claimed the lead and Kenseth finished 1.3 seconds behind in second.

Sponsor Notes: Partners on the Visine Chevrolet for the MBNA.COM 200 are Rite Aid stores along with BenGay and Cortizone, products produced by Pfizer Consumer Health Care.
