MBNA Platinum 200 - Kevin Harvick Notes

HARVICK HEADS TO DOVER WITH CONFIDENCE

HARVICK ON DOVER: "I really like Dover. I got my first pole at Dover in June last year so I have good memories. We've run well there in the past, especially in June. It's high-banked concrete and really fast. It's a lot like the track I grew up on, a fast, high-banked oval. I have more confidence going to places like Dover and Bristol than I do at flatter racetracks. We've just had more success on the high-banked tracks so you tend to like the tracks that you've run well."

QUALIFYING LAP AT DOVER: "You've got to have guts to run a good couple of laps. It feels like you're holding your breath the whole way around. It's so fast that it pins you into the seat, into the right part of the seat."

RACE AT DOVER: "It's always action packed. You have to be ready for anything, like Bristol. It's just not quite as hectic because you have a little time to gather yourself going down the straight-aways."

CHASSIS: Harvick will be competing in RCR chassis #10 this weekend at Dover. It saw the track most recently at Nazareth where Harvick qualified in second position and drove onto a second place finish. Harvick ran the car at California earlier this year to a fifth place finish.

CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE: Instead of going to Dover as the one being chased, Harvick has now switched to the chaser. Harvick surrendered the Busch Series points lead after the left rear shock separated from the chassis resulting in a 26th place finish at Charlotte. What was a 71-point lead over Jeff Green is now a 19-point deficit.

"It's going to be a dogfight all year long. We knew we probably wouldn't keep it the rest of the year. The important thing is to be leading or within striking distance at Miami. We're only interested in who has it after November 10th."

LA LAKERS: Kevin Harvick, who grew up just 90 miles from Los Angeles, is a big LA LAKERS fan. They have dominated the NBA post season and will compete for the title most likely this weekend in the Finals. Harvick thinks Shaq and Co. will make short work of whichever team represents the Eastern Conference.

DOUBLE DUTY: Harvicks' next weekend of Double Duty, where he runs both Winston Cup and Busch at different tracks on the same weekend, is the Kentucky-Pocono weekend on June 16-17th. Harvick will practice and qualify the car at Pocono on Friday, fly to Kentucky to qualify the car Friday night. Saturday morning he'll fly back to Pocono to practice the car and then fly back to Kentucky for the race. Sunday morning, it will be back to Pocono.
