QUOTES

Driver Mike Skinner on Darlington…

“I’m excited about heading back to Darlington. This is a place where you need to run as fast as you can and stay out of trouble. I always overdrive the car here so I’m still learning the best lines. We had a great race going earlier this year in the Lowe’s car until about five or six laps to go when we had a car put us into the wall. Before that we were running in the top-10 and on our way to a great finish.

“It will be neat driving the Rockwell Automation car with the special paint scheme on it this weekend. They’ve been an awesome sponsor to me since I took over driving duties in the 21. The car kind of looks like a bubble-gum machine, but I know that will help people see it out there on the track. Hopefully they won’t be able to miss it when we are running up front.”

Crew chief Gil Martin on Darlington…

“Darlington is one of those tracks where you have to factor in a lot of different things to make sure the car runs up front. Tires always are a major discussion here as well as how to set-up the cars for the two different corners. Skinner has run well here in the past and just got unlucky earlier this year. If we work together, we’ll keep this car up front all weekend.”

NOTES

Colorful Weekend…For the second consecutive year, the No. 21 Rockwell Automation Chevrolet will don a special paint scheme for this weekend’s race. As part of an employee promotion by the primary sponsor, the car is changing from a familiar red and white to a collage of colors created by 16-year old Chris Kettle of Winterville, GA.

First Pole…Team Rock reached another milestone this season when they nabbed their first ever Bud Pole Award at Bristol last Thursday. With Skinner behind the wheel, the team worked hard to get the car ready in practice and it paid off when Skinner set a new track record of 15.417-seconds with a speed of 124.460 mph.

Bad Ending to Bristol…After securing the top spot in qualifying for the Food City 250 last Friday night, Skinner was running in the top-three throughout most of the race until he ran into trouble on lap 200 and got spun out. The incident dropped him back to 23rd with 40 laps to go, but he rebounded to finish 11th.

Darlington and Skinner…The first time Skinner participated in a NASCAR Busch Series event was at Darlington Raceway in March of 1987 when he started 35th and finished 27th driving the No. 0 Hunts Tire Oldsmobile. The only other year he ran a Busch car at the egg-shaped oval was in 1999 when he competed in the spring and fall events finishing 36th both times.

Chassis No. 011…Team Rock will take chassis No. 011 to Darlington this weekend, the same one they used at the spring Rockingham race earlier this year when Mike Dillon started 27th and finished 19th.
