South Carolina 200 - Matt Kenseth Notes

Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes for Darlington Raceway

KENSETH TOUGH AT DARLINGTON: In eight career NASCAR Busch Series events at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, S.C., Matt Kenseth has finished no worse than 12th. His last seven Busch Series races at the 1.366-mile track have all resulted in a top-10 finish. Kenseth recorded a second-place finish in March 2001 and won at Darlington in March 1999. He has five top fives at Darlington.

100 PERCENT EFFORT: Kenseth has completed every lap in eight Busch Series events at Darlington Raceway. He has led 181 laps at Darlington, including 97 laps on March 20, 1999, when he drove to victory lane.

POINTS STANDINGS: Reiser Enterprises holds the 12th spot in the owners' points standings with 2,695 points through 24 NASCAR Busch Series events. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has tallied eight top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 1,990 points in 15 races. In eight races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 545 points for the Visine Racing team. Because road-course specialist Boris Said finished fourth in the Visine Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points.

ROGERS TO DRIVE AT RICHMOND: Clay Rogers is scheduled to be back in the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway for the Autolite/FRAM 250 on Sept. 7. Following Richmond, Rogers plans on competing in the Memphis and Homestead-Miami races.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Visine Racing crew chief Russ Strupp celebrates his birthday on Aug. 31.

MATT KENSETH's Comments on Darlington: "It's one of my favorite tracks, along with Atlanta, Charlotte and Dover. This is a fun part of the season. We've had success at Darlington in the Busch car and a lot of experience at the track. You have to get the car handling better than everyone else with good pit stops to win this race. It's a handling track more so than a speed track. You've got to race the race track. As long as we're smart with our tires and make good, fast pit stops, we should have a shot at winning Saturday."

Crew Chief Russ Strupp's Comments on darlington: "Going to Darlington is always interesting. Your tires wear out in five laps and the car practically looks like it was hit with a sandblaster by the time the weekend's over. Darlington's a fast and challenging track, which is to Matt's liking. We'll give him a good, fast car and hopefully make quick pit stops so we can get a win Saturday. We're taking 'Chassis No. 4' to Darlington. It's the same car that sat on the pole at Vegas and qualified third at Chicago. In the spring, we got beat out of the pits at Darlington. That cost us the race. We want to dominate this time. We're pumped up and ready to go."

Last year's Dura Lube 200 (Sept. 2, 2000): Shortly after the green flag fell at Darlington last September, Kenseth knew his Visine Chevrolet needed adjustments. Having trouble turning off the corners, Kenseth called for a wedge and air pressure adjustment for his first pit stop on lap 72. After starting 15th, the Visine Chevrolet broke into the top 10 on lap 107. Kenseth claimed the eighth position on lap 141 and remained there until the finish.

Last Race: Clay Rogers and Matt Kenseth put together a team effort at Bristol last week. Rogers qualified the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet for the Food City 250. Kenseth then started the race in the Visine Chevrolet from the rear of the field. He picked his way through the field and made a run for the lead with 35 laps to go. Kenseth's battle for the lead led to a DNF when race-leader Steve Park and Ron Hornaday got tangled up with him. The Visine Chevrolet crashed and Kenseth was credited with a 30th-place finish.

Sponsor Notes: Partners on the Visine Chevrolet for the South Carolina 200 are BenGay and Cortizone, products produced by Pfizer Consumer Health Care.
