South Carolina 200 - Jay Sauter Notes Jay Sauter #43 Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Chevrolet Monte Carlo Dura Lube 200 / September 1, 2001 Last Race – Bristol Motor Speedway… Jay Sauter wrecked his primary car in qualifying and had to start the "backup" in 37th position. Actually, Sauter had to go to the rear of the field at the start because he went to a backup car. Driving one of his best races of the season, Sauter did a masterful job of working his way through traffic and dodging accidents to post a 10th-place finish. It was Sauter’s sixth top-ten finish of the 2001 season. Making a move … Jay Sauter’s tenth place finish in the Food City 250 enabled him to gain two positions in the overall NASCAR Busch Series point standings. Sauter now stands 15th with 2494 points and trails David Green by only 32 for the 14th position. In fact, Sauter is only 137 behind Kevin Grubb for 11th. Let’s see how you like "The Track Too Tough To Tame" … Jay Sauter will drive the same car, chassis #15, that he drove at the California Speedway on April 28th. Sauter qualified 25th and finished 28th, but had an alternator problem that kept him from a top-fifteen finish. Phil Parsons also drove this car at the Kentucky Speedway on June 16th. Parsons qualified fifth and ran strong until he was involved in an accident on lap 142 and finished 34th. Sauter on the Dura Lube 200 and the Darlington Raceway … " The Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Chevrolet ran good there in the Spring, but we had a problem with the rear end that put us behind all day. Our tenth place run at Bristol was a big boost for everybody on this team. The guys worked their tails off getting the backup car ready after the accident in qualifying. Then, Gene (Crew Chief Nead) made the right adjustment calls during the race and got a top ten." "Darlington is one tough racetrack. It’s probably the hardest track on our circuit for me to get a handle on. You’ve got to approach racing Darlington with a good attitude. If you don’t, you’re just asking for trouble. You’ve got to respect this track and race it (the track) all afternoon. Darlington didn’t get all those nicknames over the years for nothing. With all of the history and tradition at Darlington, a good run is a big lift for a driver and the team. "
