Auto Club 300 - Jimmie Johnson Notes Johnson Looks Forward to Going Home CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 25, 2001) – Jimmie Johnson is looking forward to going home this weekend. The El Cajon, California native is returning to his home state for the Auto Club 300 this Saturday at the California Speedway in Fontana. Johnson is looking forward to visiting with his family and having them at the two-mile track cheering for the Excedrin Racing team. Johnson and the Excedrin Racing crew are making their way to the “Golden State” looking for a top-five finish after two 28th place finishes at the Nashville Superspeedway and Talladega Superspeedway. Johnson was involved in on-track incidents in the closing laps of both races, while running in the top-10. Johnson likes California Speedway, remembering his run in the spring of 2000. “Fontana was a turning point for the team last year [in 2000],” explains Johnson. “We gained a lot of momentum after running at the California Speedway. That is just what the Excedrin Racing team needs this year as well, to leave California with a little extra momentum.” Johnson currently sits in the seventh position in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings, and is confident the extra encouragement and support gained at the home town track, will push the Excedrin Racing team back up into the top-five in points. “It's going to be great to see my family again,” said Johnson. “I don't get to see them too much since we race almost every weekend and it is too far to travel on an off weekend. They can't wait to come to the track and watch the Excedrin Racing team work. It will be great to finish the race in the top-five since everyone will be there cheering us on.” This is Johnson's second trip to the California Speedway. “I learned a lot about aero games last year,” stated Johnson. “I definitely learned that I like the bigger tracks, like California Speedway, where air is so important. You learn really fast how to play games with the other drivers on the track. It's a fun track to run on.” Johnson finished 15th in his first race at the California Speedway. Excedrin is a family of nonprescription pain relievers for safe and effective pain relief for a range of headache types. Excedrin is produced by Bristol-Myers Squibb, a leading diversified worldwide health and personal care company, whose principle businesses are medications, beauty care, nutritionals and medical devices. Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in St. Joseph, Mo.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Milwaukee, Wis., Herzog Motorsports fields competitive racing programs in the American Speed Association (ASA) and NASCAR Busch Series. The Auto Club 300 airs live on FOX and MRN Radio Saturday, April 28. The telecast will start at 3:00 p.m. EST.
