Hills Brothers Coffee 300 - Thursday Rookie Quotes

QUOTES FROM SELECTED BUSCH SERIES RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS FOLLOWING THE FIRST PRACTICE SESSION THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY. A SECOND PRACTICE IS SCHEDULED FOR 3:30 PM CENTRAL TIME. BUD POLE QUALIFYING FOR THE BUSCH SERIES IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 1:00 PM CENTRAL TIME.

BUSCH SERIES DRIVER GREG BIFFLE LEADS THE CHASE FOR RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HONORS AND IS SECOND IN BUSCH SERIES POINTS ENTERING SATURDAY'S HILLS BROS 300. BIFFLE WAS THE QUICKEST RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN THE FIRST PRACTICE SESSION OF THE DAY, POSTING THE 19TH QUICKEST TIME.

"We're tying some different things. We've been swapping out some major components, trying a few different things since we got a free test day. I haven't been after all out speed, you know, as fast as we can get. We'll get better. We went a lot faster here testing. We're trying some major wholesale stuff right now trying to get it ironed out to where we want it then we'll go for it."

WHAT IS THE KEY TO GETTING AROUND THIS TRACK? WHAT PART IS MOST CRITICAL?

"Like a lot of big places, keeping your car turning is real important, keeping it right on the bottom. That's going to be the most important thing, keeping the nose of the car right on the white line going around the corner. That's going to be the hardest thing for everybody."

DO YOU THINK THE RACING GROOVE WILL GET WIDER BY RACE TIME ON SATURDAY?

"Oh yeah. There's a bunch of crazy guys out there. They'll move up and drive up in the bushes there, up in the dust and everything else. I may end up being one of those people. I think you will certainly see a couple of grooves by Saturday afternoon."

JAMIE MCMURRAY WAS SECOND BEST AMONG RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS AFTER THE FIRST PRACTICE SESSION, POSTING THE 23RD BEST SPEED OVERALL. WHAT MAKES HIS TIME IMPRESSIVE IS THE FACT THAT HE AND HIS TEAM DID NOT TEST AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY.

"We didn't test here and neither did our teammate (Kevin Grubb). He's pretty good, too. I think they are changing motors and he didn't make a qualifying run either. I'm pretty optimistic about the weekend."

IS CHICAGOLAND SIMILAR TO ANY TRACK YOU'VE BEEN TO BEFORE?

"Chicagoland is a cross between Texas, Atlanta, and Kentucky. It's a great racetrack and it's extremely smooth and fast. I think we're going to have a really good car this weekend. We didn't make a qualifying run just then (in the first practice). I think some of the guys in front of us might have. I'm looking forward to it."

DO YOU THINK THIS TRACK WILL BE TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE LIKE CHARLOTTE?

"It didn't on us today. We went out this morning and it was sunny and we went just about as fast in the clouds. So far it hasn't but that doesn't mean it won't change by the time the weekend is over."

YOU HAD A GOOD RUN LAST WEEK AT WATKINS GLEN.

"Our goal was to go up there and not run off the race track and that's what we did. We knew going in there that we didn't have maybe the best road course car, but we qualified 13th and finished 14th. We ran there pretty much all day. I was really happy just to get out of there without getting in the sandtrap."
