Hills Brothers Coffee 300 - Matt Kenseth Notes

Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes for Chicagoland Speedway

KENSETH BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL: After finishing second at The Milwaukee Mile in the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet two weeks ago, Matt Kenseth will be back behind the wheel of the Visine car for the Hills Bros Coffee 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., on July 14. After Chicago, Kenseth will not drive the No. 17 car in the Busch Series again until the Michigan race in August.

WINNING AT A NEW TRACK: He's done it before. Matt Kenseth won the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado in 1998.

OWNERS' POINTS BATTLE: Reiser Enterprises holds the fifth spot in the owners' points standings with 2,225 points through 18 NASCAR Busch Series events. In 2001, Matt Kenseth has earned eight top-five finishes and one win, resulting in 1,712 points in 12 races. In five races, Clay Rogers has accumulated 353 points for the Visine Racing team. With road-course specialist Boris Said finishing fourth last week in the Visine car at Watkins Glen, Reiser Enterprises gained an additional 160 points.

MATT KENSETH's Comments on CHICAGOLAND: "I tested our Winston Cup car there last month. It's a pretty nice facility. It's ridiculously fast. I think it's going to be a lot like Atlanta was when they first paved it. We'll be running 200 miles per hour on the straightaways, and we're going to be running right around the bottom of the track. I think it's going to be real tough to pass. There's so much grip in the track right now right around the bottom. I can't foresee a second groove coming in this year. We'll be pretty close to wide open around there in the Busch car. We're not going to be off the gas very much. It looks like Las Vegas and drives a lot like Texas."

CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON CHICAGOLAND: "We're taking 'Chassis No. 4' to Chicago. It's the same car we drove at Vegas and Dover earlier this year. That car has a pretty good track record. It's also the same car that won back-to-back races at Dover and Charlotte last fall. Chicagoland is Matt's kind of track. He loves the high-speed tracks. It shouldn't be too hard to get adapted to with all the practice time we get on Thursday. That really gives you a chance to try different stuff."

Last Race (July 8, GNC Live Well 200, Watkins Glen): Hired gun Boris Said drove the No. 17 car to a solid fourth-place finish Sunday at "The Glen," which helped the Visine Racing team jump up to fifth in the NASCAR Busch Series owners' points standings. Running near the front for most of the GNC Live Well 200, Said started fourth with three other road-course specialists ahead of him, and he rarely strayed from the top five. Said was no worse than 21st following a green-flag pit stop on lap 20. He later climbed his way back up to fourth on lap 42. Said moved up to second on lap 57 when David Donohue, who was running second at the time, chose to pit under caution. Unable to catch the leader, Said crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Sponsor Notes: Partners on the Visine Chevrolet for the Hills Bros Coffee 300 are BenGay and Cortizone, products produced by Pfizer Consumer Health Care.
