Food City 250 - Jay Sauter Notes

Jay Sauter #43 Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Food City 250 / August 24, 2001
Bristol Motor Speedway
Last Race – Michigan International Speedway… Jay Sauter qualified 15th and finished 15th in the NAPAOnline.com 250 on August 18th. Sauter battled a handling problem but scored his third consecutive top-twenty finish. Sauter has also qualified in the top fifteen the last five races. After twenty-three races this season, Sauter stands 17th in the overall Busch Series points.

An impressive record … Jay Sauter has quite an impressive record on the high banks of Bristol. His average finish in seven overall starts (3 Busch & 4 Truck) is 12.0; his average start is 16.0. He has four top-ten finishes and has completed 96% (1494 of 1556) of the laps. Sauter has been running at the finish in all seven previous starts at Bristol – a feat in itself.

Sauter on the Food City 250 at Bristol … "I’ve really been looking forward to this race. Bristol is an exciting and fun racetrack. It’s fun if you’ve got a good handling car, not much fun if you don’t. Obviously, things happen very fast at Bristol, so you need a little luck to survive 250 laps. I’ve had several good runs at Bristol and look forward to another one Friday night."

"The Bristol track being concrete also makes a big difference. The concrete surface is not affected by the weather as much as other tracks. We practice and qualify during the afternoon and race at night. The transition from afternoon to night racing at Bristol is not as great as you might experience at an asphalt track. That’s a big factor when you look at setting up your car for the race."
