Food City 250 - Jimmie Johnson Notes Johnson Is Positive CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 22, 2001) – Jimmie Johnson and the Excedrin Racing team had a great day at Michigan International Speedway last weekend, bringing home Herzog Motorsports' fourth top-five finish this season. Heading to Bristol Motor Speedway, an extremely challenging track, the team hopes to better last weekend's fourth place finish by picking up a win in the Food City 250. Johnson and the team are confident and running well in the season's home stretch as they prepare for the night race at the concrete short-track hidden in "Thunder Valley." Posting a top-10 qualifying run and top-five finish in the spring event at Bristol, in a back up car, Johnson says the team used their notes to build a new Bristol/Dover car, which will give them a little extra chassis support on the concrete tracks. "We decided to build a special Bristol/Dover car since the two tracks are so similar," said Johnson. "The Excedrin Racing team had a great run back in the spring and took those notes to help us build this new car. It will be exciting to drive the blue Excedrin PM Chevrolet Monte Carlo in a place that I love." In 2000, Johnson finished lower than 20th in both of the Bristol races. However, he turned around his understanding of the concrete track earlier this year when he put the No. 92 Excedrin Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the third row, starting in the sixth position for the drop of the green flag, then finishing fourth at the end of the day. After the spring race, Johnson and the Excedrin Racing team learned the way to beat Bristol is to stay up front and avoid the wrecks. "The key to Bristol is a good qualifying run," explains Johnson. "We learned that in the spring race. If you can start up front and stay there the entire race, you stand a chance of avoiding the majority of the wrecks. I think the Excedrin Racing team is going to have a good car this weekend. We're counting on another top-five finish to help us achieve our goal of ending the season in the top-five in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings." Johnson, who is currently eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings, trails fifth place by just 33 points. For race enthusiasts, Johnson will be participating in the Food City Family Race Night on Thursday after qualifying for Friday night's Food City 250. Johnson will be signing autographs from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on State Street in downtown Bristol. Johnson will also be a featured guest on the live broadcast of FastTalk with Benny Parsons at 7:25 p.m. Thursday night. The Excedrin PM Chevrolet Monte Carlo will take the green flag live on the TNT Television Network and PRN Radio Network at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, August 24. Excedrin PM is recommended for relief of pain with accompanying sleeplessness. It can be used for regular or tension type headaches and is available in tablets, caplets and geltabs.
