Outback Steakhouse 200 Michael Ritch Notes
Michael Ritch
#55 Davis & Weight Motorsports Ford
Phoenix Preview
Race: Outback Steakhouse 200
Where: Phoenix International Raceway (1-mile oval)
When: Saturday, November 4, 3:30 p.m. ET
Coverage: TNN will carry television coverage,
while MRN covers the race on radio.
Last Week at Memphis: Michael Ritch and the #55 Kleenex crew came to Memphis ready to get that first top-ten, but a mechanical failure on lap 70 ended the day early for the #55 Kleenex crew. Ritch started the race in 27th, but slowly fell backward, complaining of a lack of power exiting the turns. Ritch brought the #55 Kleenex machine in for a check to find the problem, and a broken lifter in the engine was discovered as the cause of power loss in the car. The team brought the #55 behind the wall, thus calling it a day for the Kleenex crew.
First Visit: This weekend will mark the inaugural visit to Phoenix International Raceway for Michael Ritch and the #55 Kleenex crew. The team hopes they can mirror the results of their visit to Milwaukee earlier this year, a track somewhat similar to the flat 1-mile oval in Phoenix. The Kleenex crew crossed the finish line in 16th position this July at the Milwaukee Mile, and hopes they can have similar results in Phoenix. Equipment: Michael Ritch will get behind the wheel of DW-01 this weekend at Phoenix. This car last saw action at Indianapolis Raceway Park in early August. In that race Ritch and the #55 crew battled from the 43rd starting position to finish 20th. The car has been a backup car on and off for the last few races, and it is now going to be pushed into the spotlight once again as the team’s primary car for Saturday’s 200-mile event. Michael Ritch on Phoenix International Raceway: “Phoenix is going to be a difficult race. There are a few Winston Cup drivers who will be joining us this weekend, and that always makes it tougher on everyone involved. We’ve raced on the one-milers six or seven times this year and been pretty successful on them, so hopefully we can have a taste of that here. We are just looking to come here and qualify well on our first visit, and then go from there to having a good race. We want to finish the season out with strong finishes in these last two races to give us some momentum toward Daytona in February, and hopefully Phoenix will start that trend for us.”
