All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 Matt Kenseth Notes

Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes for Lowe's Motor Speedway

THE PARTICULARS: NASCAR Busch Series All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300. 1:05 p.m. ET, Saturday, October 7, 2000. Lowe's Motor Speedway, Concord, N.C. Television: TBS. Radio: MRN affiliates. Qualifying: Friday, October 5, 1 p.m. ET.

TWICE AS NICE: Matt Kenseth earned consecutive pole positions at Dover and Charlotte late last season. What could be better? How about consecutive wins in 2000? Kenseth won the circuit's last event at Dover on September 23 and is a favorite to win again on Saturday.

NO GOLD MEDALS: At Charlotte in the No. 17 Busch car, Matt Kenseth has never visited victory lane. His best finish was second in October 1998.

TRIAL OF TIMES: Kenseth's qualifying record at the 1.5-mile speedway includes five straight top-10 starts, including four in the top five.

NO BOOKS FOR THIS TEST: Visine driver Jason Schuler will compete at Memphis Motorsports Park in Tennessee on October 29. The team will have a two-day test session at the .75-mile track October 10-11. It will be the final race of the season for Schuler behind the wheel of the Visine Chevrolet.

LEAP FROG IN THE STANDINGS: The Visine Racing Team gained two spots in the Busch Series team owner standings after the win at Dover on September 23. The No. 17 entry now has 3,305 points and occupies fifth place. The Visine Racing Team is 243 points behind fourth place, 276 points from third place, 339 points from second place, and 855 behind the first spot.

MATT KENSETH COMMENTS: "I've come really close to taking our Busch car to victory lane here. Most of the time it seems you are fighting to catch Mark (Martin), or Jeff (Burton), or even (Joe) Nemechek. I think we had a good shot at a win in the spring. The car was fast and our last pit stop was really good, but we got caught in an accident on the frontstretch and ended up finishing 30th.

"Usually we qualify well here which is a big advantage because you always expect to have long green flag runs, so you've got to stay with the lead pack. The car we have is the same car we won with at Dover two weeks ago."

KENSETH ON THE NEW SAFETY FEATURES AT LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY: "I guess drivers tend not to think about whether or not the new walls will help or not. Of course, we want the track to be as safe as possible and hopefully, we won't have any concerns this weekend."

RECAPPING THE CARQUEST AUTO PARTS 300 (May 27, 2000): Matt Kenseth set a steady pace to the front of the field in the Visine-A Chevrolet in the CarQuest Auto Parts 300. However, an accident in the tri-oval of Lowe's Motor Speedway during lap 192 of 200 put Kenseth out of contention for the checkered flag and he finished 30th. A caution for debris at lap 184 brought all the leaders in for fresh tires and fuel. Kenseth restarted in fourth place, and he made it clear he was on his way to the point. As he made his way through the tri-oval, the Visine-A Chevrolet made contact with another car, sending Kenseth into the frontstretch retaining wall. Trying to remain on the lead lap, the Visine-A Chevrolet could not keep pace with the field and was forced to return to the garage.

RECAPPING LAST YEAR'S ALL PRO BUMPER TO BUMPER 300 (October 9, 1999): Fresh from a pole award at the previous race in Dover, Del., Matt Kenseth showed his skills again by taking the top spot for the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300. It was the first time in his Busch Series career Kenseth brought home consecutive pole awards. Kenseth led four separate times for a total of 65 laps. When the checkered flag dropped he finished sixth and collected his 18th top 10 of the season.

RECAPPING THE MBNA.COM 200 (September 23, 2000): Matt Kenseth logged his third win of the season in the Visine Chevrolet in the MBNA.COM 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway. Kenseth sailed from his 14th-place starting position to lead 102 of 200 laps, marking his second career win at the one-mile oval and the 10th win of his NASCAR Busch Series career. While Kenseth dominated on the track, the Visine Racing Team took control in the pits, knocking off two 17-second stops.
