HotWheels.com 300 Lyndon Amick Notes
NO. 35 POWERTEL / MITSUBISHI WIRELESS CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO Early Exit- Lyndon Amick will be making only his second start at Homestead-Miami Speedway when he takes the green flag in Saturday's HotWheels.com 300. In last year's race, Amick made less than one circuit around the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami track before getting caught up in an accident that started ahead of him in the pack. The quick ending to his day left Amick with a 42nd place finish after starting 22nd. "I couldn't believe that happened," Amick remembers. "Usually, guys will take it easy for the first few laps to kind of settle into a rhythm, but I guess some drivers got a little antsy and wanted to start racing hard from the drop of the green flag. We had nowhere to go when the wrecking started, and it hurt the car bad enough that we just decided to park it at that point. We wanted to end the season on a high note, but that sure wasn't the way it ended up." Phone-A-Friend- When seeking advice about how to get around the Homestead-Miami Speedway, Lyndon Amick won't be bending the ears of some of the older drivers in the Busch Series garage. Instead, Amick says he'll go to his good friend, Hank Parker, Jr., driver of the No. 53 Team Marines Chevrolet. Parker seems to have a handle on going fast at this facility, qualifying fifth and leading a number of laps before scoring a fourth-place finish in last year's event. "I'm not too proud to go ask Hank (Parker, Jr.) what he's doing," said Amick. "He just seems to have this place figured out and I don't mind asking him for a little advice, because I know he'll shoot straight with me. Some guys in this garage will look you in the eye and lie to you, but that's not the way Hank operates. I've given him some pointers from time to time as well, so it's not all a one-way street." ARCA Season-Ender- Lyndon Amick won't hang up his helmet for the 2000 season after Saturday's Busch race. Instead, he'll strap it on again for next weekend's ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America) Georgia Boot 400 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Amick will drive the No. 99 POWERTEL / Mitsubishi Wireless Phones entry for Ken Schrader Racing. The November 18 race will mark the fifth time that Schrader and Amick have teamed up for ARCA events this year. The pair scored a win in the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 100 ARCA race at Lowe's Motor Speedway back on May 20, Amick's first career ARCA victory. Look Ma, I'm on TV!- Race fans who watch ESPN, ESPN2, Speedvision or even MTV might have been surprised to see Lyndon Amick, Hank Parker, Jr., Jason Jarrett and Justin Labonte in an advertising spot that is on heavy rotation on those networks. The commercial, which the four young drivers filmed in Charlotte in September, is for "Jarrett & Labonte Stock Car Racing" (JLSCR), a new racing videogame for the Sony Playstation. The commercial features all four drivers wielding sledgehammers and other implements of destruction as they attack two identically painted and decaled cars. The car that shows no damage represents "other" racing videogames, while the second car, which is from the JLSCR Game, bears the scars of its encounter with the drivers. The commercial explains that, while other racing games claim to be "real", no other racing game shows real damage to the cars like "Jarrett & Labonte Stock Car Racing" does. The game, which was released on October 4, is available at all major retailers, including Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Toys-R-Us. Swing, Batter-Batter, Swing!- Lyndon Amick will be a participant in the Publix Race Festival softball game and autograph session Thursday evening in Homestead, FL. Amick will be signing autographs from 6 to 7 p.m. along with a number of other Winston Cup and Busch Series competitors. At 7:30 p.m., he'll take to the field as part of the Busch Series contingent, facing off against Winston Cup drivers in a friendly softball competition.
