McMurray to Replace Atwood in 2001

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. - Jamie McMurray is moving from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division in 2001 to take over the ride being vacated by Casey Atwood.

McMurray has signed to drive the No. 27 Chevrolets fielded by Brewco Motorsports next year with new primary backing from Williams TravelCenters, the team and the sponsor announced Thursday.

Atwood, who won two NASCAR Busch Series races with Brewco, is moving to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series next year.

McMurray, 24, of Joplin, Mo., made 20 starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. His 2000 season includes winning the Bud Pole Award at Michigan and Nashville as well as one top-5 and three top-10 finishes in 15 events. His best finish was a third at Indianapolis on Aug. 3.

"Racing for Williams TravelCenters and Brewco Motorsports is a tremendous opportunity for me and a dream come true," McMurray said.

Williams TravelCenters and Brewco Motorsports have raced a limited schedule this season but will compete on a full-time basis next year, when McMurray will join the group competing for Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

"I'm extremely excited about promoting Williams TravelCenters and Jamie next season," team owner Clarence Brewer Jr. said. "Jamie brings a lot of enthusiasm and racing knowledge to our program. With the addition of Williams TravelCenters and Jamie, Brewco Motorsports continues to strengthen its position in the NASCAR Busch Series."
