Sawyer Reaches Milestone with Sixth Place Finish

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – When Elton Sawyer crossed the finish line in Sunday’s Sears DieHard 250 at The Milwaukee Mile, he not only gathered a sixth-place finish but joined elite company as one of only four drivers to reach $3 million career earnings in the NASCAR Busch Series.

Sawyer, a 17-year Busch Series veteran, has raced in at least one race in the series since 1983. He joins the $3 million category with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mike McLaughlin and Randy LaJoie.

Sunday’s sixth place finish also continued Sawyer’s top-10 finish streak to seven. After starting 12th, Sawyer’s Lysol Ford surged through the field and remained in the top 10 almost the entire day.

“We were a little loose going in the corners and a little tight in the center all day,” Sawyer said. “We made some air pressure adjustments which helped the car some but after our last pit stop we were tighter then we had been all day and we just did not have anything for the front runners.

“This Lysol team once again helped me out on pit road with awesome pit stops. I think we picked up like five positions throughout the day. They gave me every opportunity to be in contention today.”

Sawyer has closed to within 77 points of fourth place in the point standings and is within 100 points of third place. Sawyer is fifth for the second straight week.

The NASCAR Busch Series has this weekend off but will return to action July 16th for the Econo Lodge 200 from Nazareth Speedway. Coverage begins at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and MRN.
