ATLANTA, Ga. (March 6, 2000)- Competition speeds up as the Atlanta Police Department, the Atlanta Fire Department, local sportscasters and McDonald's employees compete against Bill Elliott and his Official Drive-Thru Crew in the McPit Stop Challenge. The event will take place Wednesday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the 2350 Cheshire Bridge McDonald's parking lot. Bill Elliott will stay on following the McPit Stop Challenge to sign autographs. The McPit Stop Challenge "pits" Atlanta's Heroes in a competition against each other, the clock and Elliott's Official Drive-Thru Crew. Teams will compete for $10,000 in prize money to be donated to their favorite charity.

1st Place: $5,000

2nd and 3rd Place: $2,000 each

4th Place: $1,000

"It's great to be doing the McPit Stop Challenge in Atlanta," said Elliott, McDonald's NASCAR driver. "My fans have always been very supportive of me on my home track, and I am excited to have the opportunity to give something back to them and the communities they live in."

McDonald's is hosting this special charity event in celebration of Elliott's 25th season in NASCAR racing. Elliott made his first NASCAR career start in the Carolina 500 at North Carolina Speedway on February 29, 1976. He qualified 34th in his powder blue Ford Gran Torino, finished 33rd, and went home with a $640 check. Elliott will be driving a special edition red, yellow and silver Ford Taurus displaying his 25th season logo at the Atlanta race.

"McDonald's is proud to give back to the community with the McPit Stop Challenge," said Georgina Roy, McDonald's motorsports manager. "As part of Bill Elliott's 25th year in NASCAR racing, McDonald's is celebrating in Bill's home state, where the legend began years ago."

McDonald's is the world's largest global foodservice retailer, with more than 25,000 restaurants serving more than 43 million people each day in 119 countries. Approximately 80 percent of McDonald's global restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees.
